Welcome

I’m Jennie, a fully qualified and experienced Person-Centred counsellor, offering counselling to adults aged 18 and over.

I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is happening for you, without judgement or pressure. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework.

Whether you know exactly what you would like help with or simply have a sense that something doesn’t feel right, we can begin by exploring it together.

When life feels difficult

There are many reasons why you might consider counselling. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, bereavement, relationship difficulties or low self-esteem. You may be coping with the impact of past experiences, a change in your life or uncertainty about the future.

Sometimes we can understand what we would like to change but still find ourselves feeling stuck. The familiar can feel safer than the uncertainty of doing something differently, even when we know our current way of coping is no longer helping us.

Counselling gives you space to explore what is happening beneath those thoughts, feelings and patterns, and to begin understanding yourself with greater compassion and clarity.

My approach

My work is Person-Centred and trauma-informed, based on the belief that each of us has the capacity for growth and change.

I won’t tell you what to do or assume that I know what is best for you. Instead, I’ll work alongside you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, helping you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and recognise patterns that may be affecting you.

Where it may be helpful, I can also offer information and psychoeducation to help you understand experiences such as anxiety, stress and the body’s threat response.

At the heart of my work is helping you develop greater trust in yourself, in your ability to cope, make your own choices and find a way forward that feels right for you.

How counselling can help

Counselling offers a consistent and confidential space to explore what matters to you, whether that relates to something happening now, experiences from your past or worries about the future.

Through talking, reflection and greater self-understanding, you may begin to see your experiences from different perspectives, recognise patterns in how you think, feel or respond, and discover new possibilities for change.

I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling, depending on what you need. Sessions usually take place weekly and are available both face-to-face and online.

Thinking about counselling?

Finding the right counsellor is important, and it’s completely understandable to want to get a sense of someone before deciding whether to work with them.

I offer a free 20-minute telephone or video consultation, giving us an opportunity to briefly talk about what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and see whether working together feels right for you.

There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

I offer appointments throughout the week, with a range of daytime and some evening sessions available, both face-to-face and online.

Emergency help

If you feel you are at immediate risk of harm to yourself or others, or are experiencing thoughts of suicide, it is important to seek help straight away.
